Many years ago, I worked in the nonprofit field and was honored and delighted to run a volunteer program of over 400 older adults who devoted time and energy to serving at 80 different nonprofits throughout our community.
I was deeply fortunate to have a daily front row seat to the kindness, generosity, compassion, grace, and love inside the human spirit, and my heart was touched and perpetually inspired by the beauty I would witness.
I also remember going to our local news outlets on multiple occasions, enthusiastically encouraging them to consider sharing images and stories of this heartwarming goodness, and although they were kind in their responses, they would reply with messages like…
“Yes, that is a lovely story. Unfortunately, however, we won’t be able to publish it because it’s the bad news that sells and generates all the shares, comments, and virality.”
Of course, I completely understood the businesses they were trying to run and the difficult spot they were in.
However, it unforgettably illuminated for me how distorted our perception of the world and humanity can be when we only look at what is the loudest in the news.
It’s true that there is an overwhelming, unimaginable, immeasurable, tragic, and devastating amount of suffering in the world.
*This isn’t to deny any of that.*
It’s just that we can also miss out on all of the good that is simultaneously occurring all over the world in every moment…
…that simply isn’t prolifically published and shared.
Therefore, in case it can serve you, below are some links to positive news sources that are solely committed to reporting good news.
Kindness, togetherness, and generosity are contagious, and I believe it is vitally important that we highlight and amplify such things in times like these.
May these uplifting links help to center, nourish, inspire, and encourage you and enhance your awareness of what remains positive and full of hope.
And may they also remind you of the power inside of every single one of us to make this a more loving, harmonious, and peaceful place to be.
Feel warmly welcome to share this with anyone else who could be elevated by it. Thanks for spreading your light!
