Ever since I was young, I’ve loved posting inspiring messages in my room, on my mirror, around my home, in my datebook, on post-it notes inside of cabinets, on the soles of my shoes, on my car dashboard, and even on the peels of uneaten bananas 😉 As you can imagine, I’ve accumulated quite a collection!
I also love these colorful and inspiring cards and have acquired several decks over the years. I alternate putting different messages on my window sills, altars, and more.

Since one of the 6 eSSentials to unleashing your joy potential is to SURROUND yourself with things that bring you joy, I’ve included some quotes from my collection here. I lovingly encourage you to print, write, or post some positive messages to surround yourself with today!
Do you have some favorites not listed here? I would LOVE to hear if so! Please share in the comments. Thanks so much, and cheers of abundant gratitude to all of the individuals quoted here!
May you surround yourself, today and always, with joyful messages that uplift and inspire you!
Infinite Love and Joy,
Christine 🙂
Joy and Happiness Quotes
“When you discover that all happiness is inside you,
the wanting and needing are over, and life gets very exciting.”
Byron Katie
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
Melody Beattie
“When I confronted my fear, it exploded into a jug of very sunny flowers.”
Kate Knapp
“To my mind, the idea that doing the dishes is unpleasant can occur only when you are not doing them. Once you are standing in front of the sink with your sleeves rolled up and your hands in warm water, it really is quite pleasant. I enjoy taking my time with each dish, being fully aware of the dish, the water, and each movement of my hands. I know that if I hurry in order to eat desert sooner, the time will be unpleasant and not worth living. That would be a pity, for each minute, each second of life, is a miracle. The dishes themselves and the fact that I am here washing them are miracles!”
Thich Nhat Hahn
“Look at everything as though you were seeing it either for the first or last time.
Then your time on earth will be filled with glory.”
Betty Smith
“In daily life, we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratitude that makes us happy.”
Brother David Steindl-Rast
“Gratitude is like a flashlight. It lights up what is already there.
You don’t necessarily have anything more or different, but suddenly
you can actually see what is. And because you can see,
you no longer take it for granted.”
M.J. Ryan
“Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
Abraham Lincoln
“This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one.”
George Bernard Shaw
“Keep knocking, and the joy inside will eventually open a window and look out to see who’s there.”
Rumi
“Be grateful for your life, every detail of it, and your face will come to shine like a sun, and everyone who sees it will be made glad and peaceful. Persist in gratitude, and you will slowly become one with the Sun of Love, and Love will shine through you its all-healing glory.”
Andrew Harvey
“It only takes a reminder to breathe, a moment to be still, and just like that, something in me settles, softens, makes space for imperfection. The harsh voice of judgment drops to a whisper, and I remember again that life isn’t a relay race; that we all cross the finish line; that waking up to life is what we were born for. As many times as I forget, I catch myself charging forward without even knowing where I’m going, that many times I can make the choice to stop, to breathe, and be, and walk slowly into the mystery.”
Donna Faulds
“Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.”
Joseph Campbell
“If you can walk, you can dance. If you can talk, you can sing.”
Zimbabwean saying
“Each species has its own habitat, that place where the species can flower forth.
If a species cannot find its proper habitat, its true powers of life cannot be evoked. A species denied its habitat perishes; we see it all around us. What is the true habitat of the human? Adventurous play.”
Brian Swimme
“We must first accept that ‘this is it’ – that all there is to life is the day to day, the ordinary, the details of the mosaic. We are living a happy life when we derive pleasure and meaning while spending time with our loved ones, or learning something new, or engaging in a project at work. The more our days are filled with these experiences, the happier we become.”
Tal Ben-Shahar
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
Harold Whitman
“All who would win joy must share it; happiness was born a twin.”
Lord Byron
“Nature has given the opportunity of happiness to all, knew they but how to use it.”
Claudian
“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of existence.”
Aristotle
“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”
Albert Einstein
“What you focus on expands, and when you focus on the goodness in your life,
you create more of it. Opportunities, relationships, even money flowed my way
when I learned to be grateful no matter what happened in my life.”
Oprah Winfrey
“The purpose of life is to be happy.”
Dalai Lama
“You can see nothing in life as a miracle or everything in life as a miracle.”
Einstein
“We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same.”
Anne Frank
“Each moment you are happy is a gift for the rest of the world.”
Harry Palmer
“Once, there was a girl who wanted to change the world and at first, she thought it’d be easy, because if everyone could see how beautiful it’d be, it’d take about a minute, but all the people she talked to were too busy to stop and listen. So, she went off and did beautiful things all on her own and pretty soon people were stopping and asking if they could come along and do that too and that’s how she figured out how worlds change.”
