This week’s little joy boost is for you if you’ve ever started a new healthy habit and found it difficult to continue long-term (a nearly universal experience).
We humans are often more motivated by pain than pleasure, which is why new habits usually begin when something feels off and we’re seeking relief.
However, once that new behavior actually gets us out of immediate discomfort…
…it takes something different to stay inspired, sustain positive changes, and expand into what’s really possible and available.
And do you know what is KEY?!
>> Returning, over and over, to a vision that inspires and compels you forward.
Research shows that habit formation can often begin from external triggers (like escaping pain)…
…but keeping it going depends more on intrinsic motivation, such as aligning with a greater vision for your life.
So, if you’ve ever thought…
“I can stop doing the thing (insert healthy habit) because it’s going well now.”
>> This is a little loving reminder that it is probably because you have been doing the healthy behavior…
…that things are going better…
…and it would probably be a great idea to keep doing it.
You likely just need a new motivator now.
Rather then being dependent on the pain, be magnetized by things that light you up, match your values, and fill you with a sense of purpose and possibility.
May you take a few moments this week to reflect on your heart’s desires, and let them illuminate and inspire the path ahead.
Sending abundant love and blessings for a beautiful, nourishing, and uplifting day,
